Henry- 17 months old!

Slightly out of order but I didn't realize I hadn't published this yet.

Eating Habits: Eats nearly everything.  Absolutely loves Rudy's BBQ extra moist brisket, he's getting pickier about his Rudy's meats.  Eats oatmeal (whole rolled oats) with mom.  Still doesn't drink much cow's milk, but we keep trying it.  Like to feed himself with a spoon but hasn't figured out scooping yet.

Motor Skills: Can go down the stairs feet first on his belly and sitting/facing foward and scooting down step by step.  Will sit down and go down the slides facing foward.  Can kick a ball.  Will spin around until he's dizzy and falls over, then will get up and do it again.

Sleeping Habits:  Mostly sleeping through the night, though I can usually get him back to sleep by activating his mobile music remotely if he wakes up.   Goes to bed between 9:15 and 10pm after he nurses and Jason reads some nights.  Finished Lake Wobegon Days by Garrison Keillor and started Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity by Bill O'Reilley.   He keeps testing out wanting to only take one nap a day and even went 12 hours without a nap one day, but it's better for everyone if he takes 2 naps.  First nap is around 11:30 about 3 hours after he wakes up the second nap around 5:30.

Speech:     Fish (ish), cheese (chiz), da, a very clear "bye bye", row row row, How I won (der what you are),  wee (going down slide), MMMMM after eating something,

When asked what a cow says he says Moo!, sheep = Baa!, cat = Meow!, dog = rururur

Signs:  Has picked up many signs this month and is putting them together. We also bought some of the Signing Time videos to watch.
Help, Milk Please, More Please, cracker, bread, cheese, Dad, fish, dog, hungry, thirsty, meat, eat, change, down, bird/chicken

Teeth :  10 teeth, another lower molar came through this month

Clothing:  wearing mostly 24month/2T size (neck is getting small to get over his head) and a few 3T shirts and shorts.

Other:   Went swimming in the Cat Hollow Pool, still taking swim lessons at AquaTots getting comfortable in the water and can climb out of the pool, but hasn't blown bubbles in the water on command. He is very excited to see Spike (Round Rock Express mascot) and has received hugs, played peek a boo with, gave a high five and had a pointing contest.  Fights getting into his carseat lately.

15 months old!

Weight:  28 lbs 9 oz      92nd percentile
Height:  31.25 inches    56th percentile

First Haircut June 12th.  Nice and short for the summer.

Eating Habits: Eats nearly everything and absolutely loves berries and grapes.  He still loves black beans and  could eat nearly and entire can a week if we let him.  Will eat yogurt on a spoon or mommy's oatmeal.  He tries to feed himself once we load up the spoon with food.  He can get it to his mouth or near his mouth if we don't study the food as it falls off the spoon.  We started giving him whole milk with his lunch and dinner most days, so far he isn't a fan.

Motor Skills: Learning to feed himself with a spoon.  Hasn't grasped scooping with the spoon but can get the scoop end to his mouth.  He's signing to us more often.  Mostly signing "more" when he wants milk, sometimes signs "milk", signs "all done" and every so often "cheese".  He can pull himself up on a kitchen chair.  He's also nearly figured out how to scale the mesh baby-gates.  He will also press buttons on the DVD player to try and watch his videos.  Henry has figured out how to put his Legos together.  New chore this month : press the button to open or close the garage door.  Henry has figured out velcro and will undo his diaper when not wearing pants over it.

Sleeping Habits:  Still wakes up about once or twice a night, mostly waking around 4am or if we're lucky sleeping through until 8:30 or 9am. Goes to bed between 9:15 and 10pm after he nurses and Jason reads Lake Wobegan Days by Garrison Keillor.  Every few days he attempts to only take his morning nap, and skip the afternoon, but it hasn't worked out and he gets super grumpy and naps.  His morning nap is 2.5-3 hours after he wakes up for about and hour to 1.5 hours.  Afternoon nap about 3.5-4.5hours after he wakes up from morning nap.

Speech:     points to Jason and says da, ball, vroom (while pushing vehicles) cat, hi, hello, how are you (ow r oo), bye, mumuma (only when upset or wants something), and says "meow" about a 100x a day whenever he sees the cats or any other animal.

Teeth :  8 teeth, we keep hoping molars are coming due to some really cranky nights

Clothing: wearing all 24 month/2T size clothes

Other:   Started Music Together class and swim lessons at Aqua-Tots.  We also love going to the splash pad at the park and getting soaked.  He's started to respond to his "Your Baby Can Read" videos and will wave  touch his toes and clap when they do.  He is always dancing whenever music comes on commercials or his video and we've been trying to capture more of it on video.  He's started to notice "Spike" the Round Rock Express mascot and will point to him when he spots him across the crowd or field and track his movements until he is out of view again.

First Haircut

First Haircut June 12

We went to Sharkey Cuts for Kids on Sunday June 12 for Henry's first haircut.  He got to sit in a cherry red Ferrari F430 and watch Dumbo while they cut his hair.  He stayed in the car for most of the haircut and only noticed the lady cutting his hair every so often.  About 75% done with haircut she thought that he was getting too wrapped up in the cape and decided to take it off Henry.  He thought this meant he was done and he started to get wiggly.  Jason held him while she did a little more trimming.  We put him back in the chair so she could use the clippers on a bit of the back and he did great!  We took lots of pictures and have a lock of his hair for his baby book too.

14 months old!

Short but sweet....

  • Henry got the Chicken Pox!  3 weeks after receiving the vaccine.  They think he was exposed just before he got the vaccine (we think probably when we went to play at the mall)
  • A few days after Henry got the chicken pox Jason came down with Hand, Foot and mouth and was quarantined to the first floor away from Henry and I until he felt better.
  • While playing with Henry on the guest bed I tried to catch his leg before he went off the bed head-first and broke my ring finger.
  • Grandma B came to visit over Memorial day weekend and taught Henrya new skill, to knock on doors.

13 months old!

Quick rundown of the month - probably missing a few details writing this 3 months later
Roseola, first group bday party,  Grandma Carol visit, zoo trip, First Easter egg hunt, baseball season begins.

Mom and Dad leave Henry for 6 whole hours!  We attended a wedding of our friends Dana and Kenley.

And while we were gone Grandma taught Henry to twirl.  Now he'll twirl around and around until he's dizzy and falls over, giggling the whole time.

Height:   30.5 inches  70th Percentile

Eating Habits: Eats nearly everything.  Will eat yogurt on a spoon but not purees or grains.  Absolutely loves Rudy's BBQ brisket, sausage and especially the beans.  The beans are a little on the spicy side but it doesn't slow him down, tears form in his eyes but he will still gobble them down as fast as he can.

Motor Skills: Has learned to open drawers (no child locks like the cabinets)

Sleeping Habits:  Still wakes up about once a night, some nights sleeping straight until 6am. Goes to bed between 9:15 and 10pm after he nurses and Jason reads.  Finished Lord of the Rings and started Farewell to Arms by Hemmingway.  The last two weeks before his birthday he was trying out 1 nap a day.  It didn't turn out very well those days, he was just alot more grumpy until he took a nap and very grumpy in the evening until he'd go to sleep.

11 months old!

WALKING!!!! That pretty much sums up the month.

Eating Habits: Still wants nothing to do with pureed food.  Tried macaroni and cheese, bits of smoked chicken, cake and whipped cream, toasted bagette, mango, kiwi, wheat crackers, grits (didn't like), french toast, eating yogurt again, pot roast.  Most meals he's eating what we are eating.

Motor Skills: Started out the month lunging/diving between furniture just out of reach to taking a few steps to being able to walk across the entire room before falling down and usually carrying toys with him a week later.  After 3 weeks he figured out how to stand up in the middle of the room without pulling up on something.   He's also started to pointing at things, usually the cats.  After an afternoon watching his buddy Cash, he is clapping.  He's figured out that his little cars have wheels and which side to put against the table to make them roll back and forth.  He's also figured out how to throw the ball, not neccessarily in a certain direction.
Sleeping Habits:  Still wakes up about once a night, some nights sleeping straight until 6am, but wakes up more often lately.  Goes to bed between 9:30 and 10:30 after he nurses and Jason reads us Lord of the Rings (almost done ~60 pages to go) and gets up between 7 and 9am.  Ideally takes two naps a day (45min - 2 hours), morning nap about 2.5-3 hours after he gets up, and afternoon nap either in the car while we run errands or 4 hours after our morning nap.

Speech:   Still alot of babbling but I think his first word is "Ball"  or BA when pointing at the ball or picking it up.
Other:   We started going to a sign language class learning some basic signs, eating, family, animals.  Jason and I have been doing some basic signs with him since December and this month he signed "milk" and his version of "all done".  He's having fun at the class, interacting with new kids and adults.  He really enjoys (and will stop and pay attention) when we are singing and signing songs.

Motor Skills: Crawling quickly to go longer distances, pulls up on walls, soft furniture or people to standing, cruising along walls and furniture usually with a toy in one hand.  He's started to place the stacking cups within each other and can grab just one lego or stacking cup off the towers we build for him.  He's also learned to use tools.  He can use the mallet to hit on the pound-a-peg, the xylophone or drum.  Walks behind is rolling dinosaur just hasn't learned to steer or that you can't walk through walls.

Sleeping Habits:  Wakes up about once a night, some nights sleeping straight until 6am, but wakes up more often when he was getting his top two teeth in or had a cold.  Goes to bed between 9:30 and 10:30 after he nurses and Jason reads us Lord of the Rings (almost done ~900 pages so far) and gets up between 7 and 8:30am.  Ideally takes two naps a day, morning nap about 2 hours after he gets up, and afternoon nap either in the car while we run errands or 4 hours after our morning nap.

Speech: Nearly everything is da da da or ba ba ba, but at the end of the month he started with ma ma ma or mum mum mum.

8 months old!

Oops....I meant to post this about a week ago.
This month we've tried many more foods, including mixed foods.  I'm starting to make a few of his purees but still buying some premade food.  So far I've made sweet potato, butternut squash and green bean purees.  He really likes Earth's Best Apples and Blueberries mix, but his favorite food is still sweet potato.  I take that back, it might be BACON.  Not that he's getting that everyday or week. I thought I'd let him taste bacon the other morning at breakfast and he fought me when I tried to take it from him.

His two bottom teeth now show much more and he likes to bite everything and everyone.  No other teeth are visible yet.  He's getting around much better with an army (belly) crawl and keeps trying new ways to crawl.  He hasn't figured out to stay on his hands and knees yet, but will get his butt high in the air.  He loves to sit up and will stay seated for a long time without toppling over. Lately, all he wants to do is stand.  He's pretty wobbly on his legs but rather stand against the couch or coffee table than be laying on the floor.  Henry is still testing out his vocal chords and learning that if he puts anything against his mouth and makes noise it sounds different.  He loves to laugh when you laugh and has become more ticklish.  He still loves peek-a-boo and will pull the burp cloth off your face to find you.  His two favorite songs that make him smile or stop what fussing over are Lady Gaga - Bad Romance (Daddy sings) or 5 Little Monkeys (Mama sings).  Mostly he likes whenever we sing to him.  He's currently wearing mostly 18 month clothes.

He also loves to knock over the towers we build out of legos or stacking cups.  Grandma Brenda and Great Grandma Margaret were having alot of fun playing this game with Henry when they were here to visit.
